DES Announces New Members of Aspiring Leaders Program
Program Promotes Environmental Leadership
Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) announced today the acceptance of five new members to its Aspiring Leaders program, bringing the total membership since the program’s inception in December 2007 to seventeen. The new members are: Nantucket Beadboard in Rochester; Ridgeview Construction in Deerfield; Jewett Construction in Raymond; Resource Management, Inc. in Ashland; and Orr & Reno in Concord. Of these companies, one manufactures architectural millwork, two are construction contractors, one processes bulk wastes; and one is a law office.
Aspiring Leaders is a program to encourage better environmental performance beyond the minimums required by laws and regulations. Any New Hampshire organization, public or private, with a strong environmental commitment, is welcome to apply. Information on the program is available at http://des.nh.gov/ - type “Aspiring Leaders” in the search field.
To date, Aspiring Leaders members have committed to 39 unique projects. Some will reduce their use of fossil fuels, electricity, water, and raw materials. Others will cut their generation of greenhouse gasses, and solid and hazardous wastes. Other Aspiring Leaders have chosen to mentor other organizations in their communities, and to reduce the impact of their landscaping. The projects are three-years in duration, with the results of the first year’s work beginning to be available in mid-2009.
DES Commissioner Tom Burack remarked, “by making a public commitment to work with DES to move toward better environmental performance, these companies are making New Hampshire a better place to live and work. I offer them my thanks and congratulations.”
